Veterinary Ultrasound and Digital Xray

Digital Dental Radiography A primary use of digital radiography is in pet dental care, quite useful for a thorough dental evaluation. Digital dental X-ray technology has become the standard for quality pet dental care, and Santa Monica Pet Medical Center is pleased to offer this advanced technology to all of our patients.
Digital Radiography When diagnosing a possible illness or injury in your pet, veterinary radiographs, or X-rays, have been widely used for many years. The advantages of X-rays include their speed and relatively low cost. Modern X-rays produce pictures that are clearer and expose the animal to very small doses of radiation, which are harmless to your pet.  Santa Monica Pet Medical Center offers the latest in X-ray technology-digital radiography. This type of X-ray imaging digitizes the information, much like a digital camera produces a photo.  The veterinarian sees this digitized image as a very detailed X-ray on a computer screen. This technology is excellent for such needs as locating a foreign body inside an animal or diagnosing a bone fracture. Digital images are clear enough to be useful in tracking the healing progress in a broken bone, for example, even in a small pet, or for identifying the signs of hip dysplasia in a dog.
Veterinary Ultrasound: Painless Diagnostic Imaging Technology for Pets Diagnostic sonography, or ultrasound, is an imaging technique widely used by veterinarians to examine most parts of the body including eyes, tendons, muscles, joints, and internal organs for illness or injury. Santa Monica Pet Medical Center is pleased to offer this advanced technology in our clinic.  As an added service, we are able to bring in specialists to perform specific diagnostic ultrasounds for our patients, such as a veterinary cardiologist to perform an ultrasound of the heart. You and your pet receive this service in the comfort and security of our clinic, without the stress and expense of additional outside referrals. Diagnostic ultrasound is often used in conjunction with other tools, such as a thorough exam, lab work, and even radiographs, to aid in diagnosing diseases in pets.
Advantages of Ultrasound Ultrasound does not involve exposure to radiation and is painless for your pet, an advantage when dealing with a frightened, traumatized, or uncomfortable animal. This procedure is often used to diagnose or monitor pregnant animals, as it is harmless to the fetuses.  Observing a joint in motion or the functioning of the heart is even possible with this technology, which is quite different from an X-ray where only a still photo is produced.  Aside from viewing the inside of an animal's body, this technology may be used in guiding the veterinarian when performing surgical procedures such as biopsies or fluid drainage.
